Steel Coil, Sheet & Plate Import Freight Into Canada

RRA coordinates freight, in-house customs clearance, port handling, and specialized inland delivery for Canadian importers of steel coils, sheet, and plate. Heavy, securement-sensitive cargo with real classification and trade-remedy exposure — handled by one accountable team, not four vendors. RRA moves and clears the steel; it does not sell it.

More Than an Ocean Booking

Steel rarely moves on freight alone — it needs classification, import-control review, securement, the right delivery equipment, and often SIMA analysis. RRA coordinates the whole move under one file: ocean and breakbulk freight, in-house customs, drayage, and flatbed or step-deck delivery.

How it works

How Your Steel Import Moves

  1. Shipment planningWe confirm the product form (coil, sheet, plate), dimensions, weight, origin, Incoterm, delivery site, and any securement or unloading requirements.
  2. Classification & trade-remedy reviewOur in-house customs team reviews HS classification, origin, and any SIMA or import-control exposure before the goods ship, so duty treatment is understood up front, subject to CBSA's final determination.
  3. Ocean or breakbulk freightContainerized for standard packs, or breakbulk and out-of-gauge for heavy plate and oversized bundles, toward the Canadian gateway that fits the routing.
  4. In-house customs clearanceCARM-ready filing with classification, origin, and permits handled in-house. Release remains subject to CBSA and other government agencies.
  5. Drayage & securementTerminal handling, coil securement, and drayage from the gateway with equipment suited to the weight.
  6. Flatbed inland deliveryFlatbed, step-deck, or heavy-haul delivery across Canada and into the US, planned around unloading and site access.
Compliance

Steel Imports and Canadian Trade Controls

Depending on the product and country of origin, steel imports can involve Global Affairs Canada import-control monitoring and Special Import Measures Act (SIMA) anti-dumping or countervailing measures. We review this at quote stage — before the goods ship.

Compliance context current as of 2026 and subject to change; see Global Affairs Canada steel import controls and CBSA SIMA measures in force. Classification and duty are confirmed per shipment.

Import controls & monitoring

Certain steel goods fall under Global Affairs Canada import-control and monitoring requirements. We confirm what applies to your product and origin before shipment.

SIMA exposure

Some steel products and origins carry anti-dumping or countervailing duties under SIMA. HS classification is a reference for review — it does not by itself determine liability. Our customs team assesses it before filing.

RRA coordinates freight and in-house customs for steel importers; it does not manufacture, mill, or sell steel. Final duty and admissibility rest with CBSA.

FAQ

Steel Import Freight FAQ

No. RRA is a freight forwarder with in-house customs clearance. We coordinate the international freight, customs clearance, and delivery for companies importing steel into Canada — we do not mill, distribute, or sell the steel itself.
Our in-house customs team reviews HS classification, country of origin, and any SIMA anti-dumping/countervailing or import-control exposure before the goods ship, so duty treatment is understood up front. Final determination rests with CBSA.
Yes — containerized for standard packs, or breakbulk and out-of-gauge for heavy plate and oversized loads, with flatbed or step-deck inland delivery and securement planning.
We recommend the Canadian gateway based on origin, product, and destination rather than forcing one port. Routing is confirmed with each quote.
Send the product form and grade, dimensions, weight, origin, Incoterm, delivery site, and any securement or unloading needs, plus the HS code if known.
